When I think of a nurse and ethics my thought is that they play an important role. The nurse has face-to-face contact with that patient at all time. The nurse is responsible for providing the best care possible for the patient, which includes maintaining the ethical standards. A nurse’s role is to be an advocate for a patient and the treatment they want to receive. The nurse has to remain on the same side as the patient even if they don’t agree with what the patient wants. It’s important for the nurse develop the a trusting relationship with patient, which requires the nurse to speak for the patient when the patient cannot speak for themselves. Nurses see everything because they are constantly with patients, so they know when things gone wrong. I think that nurses can provide important insight to research and how to properly care for a patient. If a policy were to change then the nurses are the first ones to implement it into the hospital and whether or not it worked correctly. I think that nurses can provide valuable feedback on ethical changes and new implementation because they are the ones performing the actions. I think that nurses do play an important role in ethical standards and can provide the best insight to new implementations.
