Pre- Interview

The subject I chose is someone that I have known for quite a few years and is from my personal life. The reason I chose this subject is because she currently works in the Dana Farber center in my hometown. She works with oncology patients, and this is the patient population that I want to work with when I graduate. This woman is currently the manager of her unit, so she is in a leadership role. I have also known this woman outside of work and she is a very kind and encouraging person to be around. She is also a professor at a college in New Hampshire, where she teaches nursing classes. The leadership role that she is in is a formal leadership role, opposed to an informal leadership role. A formal and informal leadership role differs in the sense of if a person is given that title. A formal leader is someone who has a title of authority and is identified as a leader by everyone on their floor. Informal leader is someone that is recognized because they lead by example. This person may not have a title, but they are known to many people as a motivated and determined person, which are only two leadership qualities.  I am most interested in learning on how she chose oncology. I also want to know the process that she went through to get to her leadership position and if she experienced resistance from any co-workers. The part I am interested in learning about is the challenges she has had to face or hard conversations that she has had to have with co-workers while being in a leadership role.
