Attaining and Protecting Professional Nursing License

I plan to become licensed by exam in Maine and it is a compact state. The process must be completed on-line. The whole process includes applying online, uploading a current picture, and upload a signature page that is manually signed. Then send in a supporting document with all “yes” responses to the questions in the disciplinary section of the application. Then pay the non-refundable fee of $75. The school must send a complete certification of school form online. A criminal background check is required in the state of Maine and fingerprinting does have to be completed. A criminal background check must be completed through the Maine Department of Public Safety and FBI based on the set of fingerprints provided. To get fingerprinted the registration must be completed online and there is a one-time $52 fee.

In the state of Maine impairment is referred to as a situation in which an individual is rendered unable to perform their professional duties and responsibilities in a reasonable manner. This could be because of a physical disease, psychiatric problems, substance abuse, and chemical dependence. The 2002 ANA resolution focuses on promoting awareness, providing education about identifying these issues, and instating polices to promote alternative discipline programs. There are very specific facts that go into mandatory reporting and personnel should considered all the facts before making a report. A report can be filed to the DEA, Attorney General’s Office, and Licensing Board. There is a chart about the traditional and revised approaches to disciplinary actions. This chart goes over many issues and explains the proper approaches that will be taken. I will be protecting my license by continuing to educate myself about the proper practice and expectations/ standards of the hospital I will work at. Also, finding resources that I can go to if I ever am unsure about a certain situation that occurred.
