After viewing the interview, I feel that I learned many different things about therapeutic communication and how to properly interview a patient. I think that this group did a good job asking open-ended questions and asked the patient to elaborate on certain things. One area that this group talked to the patient about was his previous job and how his retirement has affected him. I think that his retirement has played a part in his depression getting worse and this group did a nice job on asking him those questions. I think this group also did a nice job finding out if this patient had a support system. The patient did mention that his sister lived nearby but was not supportive or understanding of his depression. This group did educate the patient on ECT treatment and that he will need rides to and from the hospital and told the patient that this gets his sister involved in his treatment.

When the patient came back into the room, this group did a nice job providing education to the patient. This group provided education about discontinuation syndrome and ECT treatment. They ensured the patient that ECT was safe and it will help the patient with his depression. They told the patient that he would have to come 2-3 times a week for 6-12 treatments. This group also went through the Columbia Scale to assess the suicidal ideations of this patient. The patient did mention that he does have suicidal ideations and that he has been stock piling pills. I would say that this group went through all the domains and provided great education for this patient. I was able to learn how an interview with a patient should flow and how a nurse should interact with a patient. I was able to see when a nurse should be empathetic and what type of responses are appropriate. I would say being able to watch my classmates was very helpful in my learning process.
