I thought that Julie Beck’s essay was very insightful and had a lot of interesting ideas in it. The first page of her essay really caught my attention because there were a lot of things that I agreed with on that page. The first thing was when she talked about how stories becomes a part of you. I really agreed with this because a story that a person has is very personally and has shaped them in a certain way. This story could be an experience a person has had and could have changed how a person views the world around them. Another idea that goes along with this is when she talks about storytelling is how we make sense of the world. Whether or not the event is real it helps us to understand the grey areas of the world. We are not going to understand everything in this world, but stories can help to simplify the craziness that goes on. I really liked this part of the essay. The other part of her essay that I thought was interesting and I had to read over twice was when she talked about the different thematic coherences between adults and teens. My take on this is that adults talk about stability because that means they have been successful enough to have a stable life. Whereas, teens or young adults talk about change because they are graduating, moving away from home, and experiencing a lot of new things. These were just some of the things that really stood out to me because I agree with these ideas or I thought they were interesting concepts.
