Before taking this class I thought all edits were just the same. To me it just meant commenting on someone’s writing whether it was specific or it was broad. Now hearing the terms global and local edits makes more sense to me. While I was peer reviewing, I tried to focus on the whole essay and not just the nitty gritty details. I wasn’t too focused on the grammar or the sentence, but more of the idea of the essay. I tried to focus on if the person was conveying their idea and the support that they were using. I think that it’s better to focus on global edits when reading someone’s essay for the first time because you can better understand the whole essay. When I was reading these essays, I had to refrain from focusing on the small details because they don’t matter at this point. Global edits help the reader to see the claims and the examples that the write uses to persuade the reader one way or another. I know when I was reading I focused more on the arguments that the writer was conveying because I was just trying to comment on the whole picture. I think that global edits are important when it comes to understanding the whole message of the essay.
