Presenting Change

Our team dissemination project was a podcast where we asked nurses on R2 about prolonged hospital stays. When we first asked the nurses on R2 if they would be willing to participate in our podcast, they were all very enthusiastic about. I think that they all enjoyed being able to speak about an issue that is very current and relevant to where they work. The goal of our podcast was to inform all floors at MMC or other hospitals about this issue. We then are examining how may views that our podcast gets on YouTube to see if people are listening and gaining any knowledge from the podcast. We want viewers to know that other nurses are feeling the effects of prolonged hospital stays and possible ways to help or intervene with prolonged hospital stays. We were able to post the podcast to YouTube, but we have not received any feedback from viewers. The nurses on the floor gave us positive feedback on the work that we did to prepare for the interview and the conversations that we had with them.

I think from this project I learned team collaboration skills and I learned a lot about this topic that we chose. Our team worked well when it came to dividing up tasks and getting the tasks done in a timely manner. Since we wanted to interview the nurses on R2 we had to have all of the work done beforehand to be able to provide background and questions to the nurses. I would want them to know that I am able to work with a team and be able to be efficient when it comes to work. I would also like them to know that I communicate well and that I am able to delegate tasks to others.

I think that our team worked well together. We were able to complete all of the steps in a timely manner. We met every week to start each step of the assignments, which was helpful because we were all on the same page and were able to turn in the assignments in at the right time. I think that each team member played an equal role when it came to completing this project. I think that I learned that I work best in a group setting when I am able to bounce ideas off other people.

  1. I really enjoyed learning about this topic and thought it was so relevant especially in the past 2 years with then COVID-19 pandemic. I work on another floor in the hospital and we have patients who’ve been at the hospital for now 6+ months because of discharge planning issues, such as other facilities closing down or simply not having enough staff to care for any more patients. I thought that the aim of this project was very clearly stated, and the organization also made it really easy to understand and follow. I thought the podcast setup was really well done and it was pretty cool that you were able to get nurses from your clinical floor to participate in it! I especially think that your methods for conducting the research is applicable because nurses are experiencing this firsthand, and how negatively it affects everyone in the situation – patients, nurses, and the hospital. The implementation plan and methods of evaluating outcomes are both logical and feasible, and I thought was appropriate considering your target audience. Overall, I thought the quality of your project was great and the information you are presenting was very interesting to learn about!

  2. I really enjoyed listening to this podcast and hearing the nurses from that floor speak about prolonged length of stay. It was very interesting to hear the different point of views from the different nurses with all different experiences and backgrounds. The quality of the video was very good, as it was clear and easy to listen to, great work!
